DVLA eye tests in Leyton

If you need glasses or contact lenses to drive, the DVLA requires that you meet a minimum standard of vision when you’re behind the wheel.

At Optical World, we can check your eyesight and make sure your vision meets the current DVLA guidelines. Whether you’re renewing your licence, driving for work, or simply want peace of mind, we’re here to help.

DVLA vision requirements for driving

To drive legally in the UK, you must meet the DVLA’s eyesight standards. This includes:

  • Being able to read a number plate from 20 metres (for vehicles registered after 2001), with glasses or contact lenses if needed
  • Having a minimum level of visual clarity (visual acuity) when using both eyes together, or in one eye if you only have vision in one
  • Having an adequate field of vision

If you’re unsure what this means for you, don’t worry we’ll explain everything clearly and carry out any relevant tests during your appointment.

HGV, lorry and bus driver eye tests

If you drive a lorry or bus, stricter eyesight standards apply. These include higher levels of visual clarity and wider visual fields. We carry out eye examinations for HGV and vocational drivers and can assess whether your vision meets DVLA requirements. If you wear glasses or contact lenses, we’ll also check that these fall within the permitted limits. If there are any concerns, we’ll talk you through the next steps and your options.

Why Our Patients Choose Us

Our reputation has been built on trust, word of mouth and the kind feedback shared by our patients.

We believe these reviews reflect what matters most to us: caring for people, not just eyes.

Excellent customer service.

Jeff went over and above what I expected, and fixed my glasses in record time. I can honestly say I have never had such good service from any other opticians, or shop for that matter. THANK YOU!

Idit Cohen

Very good opticians.

My family and I have been patients here for 30 years, the staff have always been friendly, helpful and knowledgeable, and take good care of you.

Kamran Ahmed

The customer service at optical world is excellent!

Went to another well know glasses shop and had an awful experience. Optical world were able to sort my partners broken glasses and a new pair for me same day.
